18 May Moving Forward with One Community. One Park.
In 2014, the Town Supervisor, David Kelly, approached the PCF about sponsoring a study of Pawling residents to determine the best use for Edward R. Murrow Park and other Town parklands. The PCF formed a Parks Steering Committee at the beginning of January 2015, to formulate a strategic plan for the Town of Pawling’s parkland and recreational needs to fulfill three actions:
- Build consensus to recommend future recreational capital improvements for our three main park properties.
- Suggest possible programming opportunities to explore by the Recreation Department.
- Identify a new purpose for Edward R. Murrow Park.
The work of the Parks Steering Committee evolved over time into our current One Community. One Park. initiative. Our main focus at this time is the renovation of the Great Lawn. Future plans in keeping with suggestions from community members consist of a Murrow Park development featuring an off-leash dog park, community gardens, rehabilitation of the natural amphitheater and bandshell, and potential partnerships with other organizations for a nature center. Lakeside Park further development includes improved nature trails, featuring paths linking Murrow and Lakeside parks, and repurposing the site of the Old Inn.
We’d like to share some articles from the past that discuss our current and future projects:
